Cat6 vs Cat6A: Which Is Right for Your Business?

Cat6 supports 10 Gigabit over shorter distances and handles the majority of office environments comfortably. Cat6A sustains 10 Gigabit across full-length runs and manages heat better under heavy PoE load.

The decision usually comes down to how long the infrastructure needs to last and how many powered devices will hang off it — access points, cameras, displays and sensors all draw power through the same cabling.

If the building is yours for the next decade, the incremental cost of Cat6A at rough-in is far cheaper than re-cabling later.
